Lineup (3-4-1-2)

Type of formation is wrong - this would be a 2-1-3-1

The backs play their normal central roles. The key in this formation is the center defensive midfielder (Sarah here). I'm going to describe the role in detail:

1.) On goal kicks - if wide options (CBs) are not available, CDM must drop to space (quickly!) for a pass from keeper. Cannot remain static.

2.) Must offer support to both wide midfielders and pick up runs toward or from the middle.

3.) If CB is pulled wide, CDM must drop into middle for coverage.

4.) Must control the center of the pitch during attack, and swing back wide if no pass presents itself. Should be comfortable receiving the ball as an outlet from outside midfielders or distributing the ball to CAM/FW (Mike and Michaela here.)
