Greece "Victorious XI" (2004)

No matter what anyone says, the bottom-line is, Greece won the Euro Cup in 2004. And they won it by playing according to their strength. They were not any classy side, neither they had any player of exceptional skills. So they knew their own weakness very well, thanks to their coach Otto Rehhagel. However Rehhagel also was very well aware of their strength of playing tremendously fast counter-attacking Football. Angelos Charisteas was the lone striker mostly. Greece defended in their own half really hard, and they defended as their lives depended on the games, and then they suddenly broke free. Within 4-5 passes 3-4 Greece players were within opposition boxes. And this happened in almost every match, and no one knew how to counter this tactics.

There were much criticism over Greece's play by citing it as a negative strategy, with this much of defending. However, this was a strategy that worked brilliantly for Greece, and made them European champions. This was the only significant international achievement for Greece in Football. So, we must atleast acknowledge that they performed at their best, to which no one had any answer.

Coach/Manager : Otto Rehhagel
