Although there are controversies in the 1966 World Cup, and that continued even in the final, it is safe to say that England was a brilliant team nonetheless. So, the loss against a brilliant England side should not have been that bitter. However, West Germany's final defeat was linked to their political status too, which was enough to inspire them to win the World Cup 8 years later.
The 1966 World Cup for West Germany saw the emergence of their greatest player - Franz Beckenbauer. "Der Kaiser" as he was known played in the midfield and commanded it like very few ever did. Despite their loss in the final, this West German team is brilliant anyway.
