The general purpose in possession is for the two fullbacks to push up very high and take up the spots where the wingers would normally be allowing the wingers to invert to inside forwards.
The reason I chose Malacia over Shaw is because he is much faster and excels at overlapping runs. I also opted for two new centre backs because none out of Varane, Maguire, Lindelof or Evans and fast and I would play with a high line so i want two new fast centre backs. And your wondering why Martinez is in midfield. Well, Mainoo is brilliant at pushing forward but he needs defensive cover behind him to stop opposition attacks and Martinez is primarily a defender and is brilliant at tackling and stepping out and winning one on ones. He also has brilliant quality on the ball and has very good passing ability. Another thing to note is he played defensive midfield at times for Defensa y Justicia and Ajax. His job is to stop attacks and when the two fullbacks push high up and leave the two Centre backs to defend Martinez will drop back and become a CB beside them.
Fernandes then has brilliant ability on the ball and can play people in behind the defense and so with players like Rashford who is brilliant at racing in behind a defense and has excellent finishing i think this system would work very well.
