Goalkeeper: Ter Stegen is in Form.
Centerbacks: Süle and Rüdiger the new Hummels and Boateng.
Left Back: Schulz is Germany’s best attacking Left Back, who pushes upfield as high as possible to provide width.
Right Back: Thilo Kehrer will stay further back during attacking, forming a back 3 with Süle and Rüdiger. Germany was too exposed in 2018 on counters, and 3 fast CBs will avoid that. During defense it’s a traditional back 4 with Schulz back on the left.
Kimmich provides attacking width on the right side from the CM spot, because Kehrer stays back, and plays a more central role when switching from defending to attacking.
Gündogan cuts passing lanes in the middle, or marks world class players such as Messi or Ronaldo if needed. Also an outlet when switching from Defense to Attack. Rare runs to the edge of the box.
Kroos is the indisputable leader. Commanding the game in the center when Kimmich drifts out wide. The core of the machine.
Front 3 of Sané Reus and Brandt provides speed, something Germany did not have in the past. Expect Sanè and Brandt to make frequent cuts to the inside while Reus is overlapping. Gnabry is also a good alternative.
I chose to exclude Werner, because his style of Striker does not do well in Germany’s system. Often in the way and not creative enough with passing.
