Chelsea Football Formation
Lineup (4-1-3-2)
Kepa Arrizabalaga · Andreas Christensen · Kenneth Omeruo · Emerson Palmieri · Cesar Azplicueta · N'golo Kanté · Ruben Loftus-Cheek · Callum Hudson-Odoi · Kenedy · Michy Batshuayi · Tammy AbrahamI feel this formation creates a balance between attack and defence as both wingers are capable of tracking back to help out the wing backs while also carrying a potent threat going forward due to their directness and pace. The back 4 is also well protected with Kanté sitting just in front of them with him being one of the best holding midfielders in that position. This also means Loftus-Cheek gets the license to drive forward, pick passes through the opposition defence with his direct and physical style of play. He is also very comfortable with the ball at feet so is the ideal player to play the number 10 role and think up play with the front 2. The 2 wingers are also good on either side of the pitch so can constantly interchange/cross over to create uncertainty through the opposition and bring different ways to penetrate through the opposition defence. I also chose a front 2 of Michy and Tammy because they are both mobile, make good runs off the ball and good with the ball at feet. Their movement will create space in behind for the wingers if they might want to cut inside. They are also both good in the air so will add a physical presence in the box when crosses are whipped in. Speaking of physical presence, i felt it was better to partner Omeruo with Christensen at the back because the former is not only physically strong but very agile and quick too. Same applies to Christensen and together with their added height they can give aerial problems to the opposition striker. The wingback pair of Emerson and Azpilicueta means there is balance between attack and defence with due to their stamina. Emerson is very decisive in the final third with the ball at feet meaning he can create more chances for the front players while Cesar's experience at the back with help keep the back 4 in shape. He's also one of the best man marking wingbacks in the game therefore gives valuable defensive cover down the right. He can also gallop forward relentlessly when needed to add more bodies in attack. In goal, I went with Kepa as he is a very agile and commanding figure behind the back 4. His confidence on the ball means the team can count on him to be the sweeper and also enable them to play from the back which will be the main focus of this side to make for easy penetration into the opposition final third.
