Norwich City returned to the Premier League for the first time since the 2004-05 season, by beating Portsmouth 1-0 on Monday night, with rivals Cardiff losing 3-0 to Middlesbrough.

Simeon Jackson was the hero, scoring on 50 minutes, with the Canaries holding on against Pompey, who had been relegated from the PL last season.

Norwich had been relegated from the Championship in 2008-09, and lost 7-1 to Colchester on the opening day of the 2009-10 season in League One, but won the title after taking over the lead from Leeds United in January 2010 and holding it for the rest of the season. And, after a good 2010-11 season which sees them promoted, they are the first team to achieve back-to-back promotions to the Premier League which Manchester City did in 2000, but they were relegated from the PL in 2001. They were promoted the next season and have stayed there ever since.
