This formation simulates diamonds all around. These diamonds are made for combination plays to take place throughout the pitch. Leaving Fowler as Sweeper gives him freedom to move around, avoiding coverage, leaving Murawski the marking-back job. Because he will not be able to leave the ball often, Cooper and Fitzgerald are placed in front of the defense, simulating defensive midfielders, who will have possession of the ball most. Then, they will most likely lay off the ball to Hernandez, an excellent dribbler, or send the ball to Heller or Pope, who can either dribble in or cross it for Goncalves with the header.
