Lineup (4-2-3-1)

Ruffier · Baines · Vermaelan · Benatia · Sagna · M'Vila · Wilshere · Cazorla · Rodriguez · Chamberlain · Podolski

This squad is a mimic of the 'Invincibles' squad in the 2003/2004 season. There are two sectors to the team in general, left and right.

The left sector is for passing and build up play mainly. Baines helps with the passing options of Wilshere as well as all of his surrounding players (Chamberlain, Acquah and Cazorla). He along with Cazorla is the hub of the team, therefore he has been given a lot of space to roam up and down the pitch, connecting players together. Him and Cazorla are the nerves of the team, carrying passes around the pitch.
Chamberlain himself will get a variety of assists by using his pace to speed past defenders and get a killer ball to our poacher, Villa. Villa is a very clinical finisher and combined with the positioning of himself according to his preferred foot and you have a recipe for goals. Podolski also suits this role. Another feeder for our poacher is Cazorla, who will be a more offensive Wilshere type player. He also feeds balls to Rodriguez, who has the skill and creativity to either cut in or pass to our poacher. He shares a similar role to Chamberlain.

You cannot have a team built up of midfielders that do not specialise in defence, so this is where M'Vila comes in. The holding/defensive midfielder will not only hold, but defend (obviously).M'Vila mainly does two things. First of all he grabs hold of loose balls and sends them off to players like Wilshere and Cazorla, but also he defends and assists the right side of the field. Notice the right centre area of the pitch would be prone to a vicious and unforgiving counter attack, so this formation has a trick that you cannot even see by observing the formation itself.

M'Vila, Benatia and Sagna form a corner shape that would surround a lone winger, making crosses and passes into the box exceedingly difficult. The only way to easily beat this cornering method would be to increase the passing options, but if the ball is then lost the opponent would be vulnerable due to most of their midfielders assisting the lone winger.

The defensive line has two sectors, left and right. Like before the left is for passing and the right more defensive.
Baines and Vermaelen are not only capable defenders but also good passers, better than Benatia and Sagna. They assist, like mentioned, Wilshere and possibly Chamberlain, who in turn penetrate the enemy. This passing and slightly offensive aspect could falter the defense, and in a way it does Baines and Vermaelen are capable defenders but they will be caught off guard at times and a goal may be let in. A small solution for this would be for only one defender out of Baines and Vermaelen to push forward and pass, meaning there will always be one defender on the left to contain the incoming attacker.
The right side of the defensive line is rock solid in order to remain invulnerable from counter attacks from that particular wing.

The final piece of the puzzle is the goalkeeper. Arsenal have been lacking a good goalkeeper since Lehmann departed the gunners and Ruffier is an extremely consistent keeper, which is everything you need really. He is consistently good instead of having up and downs. Sure he is no Buffon but he is fairly young and not prone to silly errors.

This team I believe could be the answer to Arsenal's trophy drought, but it will be expensive.
